About Us
Meet the team.

Georg Wachter

Team Lead

Harry Potter, Is that you?? No. It’s Georg Wachter (a.k.a master axethrower). His uncanny resemblance to Harry Potter does, however, explain his determination to persevere through unmatched hardship such as de-bugging the website. From wet lab experiments to dry lab computer design, Georg passionately immerses himself into all facets of the project. How does he do it? He’s actually a wizard.

Alberto Scarampi

Wet Lab Lead

Who needs a rotary evaporator when you have a rotary Albi-vaporator? Albi is your stereotypical mad scientist who exerts as much passionate devotion to making liposomes as he does to making gelato. If you have any questions about cyanobacteria or stochasticity, just ask him. He’ll be ‘glad you asked’. Although he stays humble about his unmatched brain power, he likes to boast about how he knows ‘the best pizza restaurant in London’. Still a matter of debate…

Alisdair Stevenson

Dry Lab Lead

Alisdair's job was already difficult enough without having the extra headache of having to explain biology to a physicist. Nevertheless, he went about this job with the same enthusiasm and determination that he showed when campaigning alongside Hansa for margherita pizza. The dry lab would have been lost without his leadership and his dry humour only proved further that he was a natural for this job.

Kevin Vela

Wet Lab

Who likes to assemble liposomes engineered with DNA-nanopores whilst listening to latin music? This guy. Also known as plate reader sensei, master of liposome extrusion and creator of the nanoDIPs spotify playlist, Kevin demonstrates a meticulous but lively work ethic in the lab and brings energy to the team. Favourite controversial topic of discussion? Arguing with albi about the best pizza restaurant in London.

Sonia Shyfrin

Wet Lab

This one is breaking the synthetic ceiling for freshers across Imperial College. A quick learner, Sonia's love for matcha is matched by her infectious energy. She stirs serendipity - be it resulting, randomly, in our best ever liposomes or meeting a sought-after expert. Sonia is also our resident sketchist and instagrammer - watch out, you may feature in her webcomic!

Edward Praun

Design

A man of many talents, Edward is a passionate creative/brand designer, video director/editor, resident DJ and ambassador of dress shirts. You can find him at the office wearing unnecessarily large headphones and editing Oscar-worthy mini-movies. In his free time, you can also find him wearing unnecessarily large headphones and editing Oscar-worthy mini-movies. If you haven’t gotten the gist by now, he’s really good at what he does!

Hansa Shree

Wet Lab

The mitochondrion of the wet lab (that is, the powerhouse) and the enHansa to our good genes. A biologist, a poet, a dancer, an entrepreneur, a wonderful person, cancer’s worst nightmare, and a pizza Margarita aficionado. Be careful though: Hansa might scare you from behind the corner when you least suspect it.

Shabz Khan

Dry Lab

The man, the myth, the legend: Shahbaz (a.k.a. Shabz, Shababz or Shabobz). Just look at that smile! You’re smiling now as well aren’t you? This keen physicist loves digging his head into complex mathematical problems but also demonstrates a true passion for biology. When he isn’t complaining about how bad his favourite football team (Manchester United) is, he’s usually lecturing Alisdair and Hansa about why not to order margherita pizza from dominos.

Professor Oscar Ces

Supervisor

Let us present the Wizaaaaard, the wonderful wizard of Oz! Oscar, (a.k.a Oz), is a leading specialist in a lot of stuff. His passion for science resonated through our team, and his laid back, cool attitude helped us stay composed and optimistic during times of doubt. A big thank you to the magic Oz for being such a supportive supervisor!

Dr. David Miller

Advisor

Known for his keen eye and hacky attitude, David is always there to help poor undergraduates in need. As a resident Hackspace fellow, he had to deal with his whole precious lab space getting SRB purple over the summer. As he does not shirk from getting a radical haircut, we were unable to find a representative picture for the man who helped us the most.

Special Thanks To:

Everyone else

Special thanks to all others who helped out with the project in other capacities: Alicja Brozek, Dr. Tom Ouldridge, Ismael Mullor-Ruiz, Denise Gel - thank you for your help and guidance!
